What do you do when you can’t Knit, eek!
So the blog and YouTube channel have been quiet. Why? Well, where to begin? It started with me poking myself in the eye and giving myself a black eye, followed by a cold that knocked me out for a week. After I recovered from that we were off on holiday, then I promptly broke my finger when we got home. Ever tried to knit with a broken finger? I don’t recommend it. I could manage a few stitches but before I’d made any progress my finger, then the whole hand, would start aching and I’s have to stop.
So the whole situation has led to a lot of frustration on the knitting front. I still can’t start my Christmas knitting, I can’t finish any of my wips and I can’t keep my hands busy on an evening. That last one is the worst! I seem to be completely incapable of just sitting and watching tv, I need to be doing something with my hands.
It’s all made me a bit grumpy on the subject. Knitting friends send me patterns for an opinion and get growled at. My husband asks if I’d like to go to Newcastle for the monthly knit n natter organised by a friend and gets a scowl for a reply (although naturally I still went). Social media suddenly seems full of photos and anecdotes all about fibre and yarny things… sigh
Essentially I was going a bit doolally with boredom. Normally I’d knit, craft, use my camera, go play in the photographic darkroom or ride my bike when I feel like this. With my hand, the only option I had was to ride my bike. Not a problem except I can’t ride enough hours a day to calm my mind down. I can, however, type, if a little slow and with more mistakes than usual, so I’ve been trying to do all those niggly online computer type admin things we all put off. I mean when did my email inbox get so full of junk? Thankfully I’m now able to do a small amount of knitting although my hand still starts to complain far too quickly for my liking.
I guess I shall just have to resign myself to more weeks of frustration and then handing out some IOU’s for Christmas as I seriously doubt I’ll be able to get my Christmas knitting done in time. Well, at least a broken hand is a decent excuse 😉
