The knitting zombie who just wants to knit…
The last few weeks have been hard so I’ve been sitting, zombie style on the sofa knitting a lot. (So I guess it can’t all be bad then can it?) Which begs the question of what have I been knitting? Well, I’ve been continuing on with the WYS Kingfisher for Mr A and they’re coming on nicely (almost finished). I’ve also been making progress on my Zauberball Gothic Night Shawl. I’m loving this pattern, I knitted it last year in a beautiful cotton for my bridesmaids and I really wanted one for myself.
Enter the Zauberballs, notice it’s plural, in the Charisma colourway. All pretty purples in various shades, some so dark they almost look like black. I bought the yarn and needles at Woolabaloo at the ‘Meet Winwick Mum’ event earlier this year. Happily, I cast on then after a little while thought, huh, I’m gonna need another ball. Naturally, I should have realised that at the start but for some reason, I didn’t.
Fortunately for me, Lucy of Woolabaloo had another one in the shop and agreed to post it out.
It’s coming along nicely and I’m pleased with it. In some ways, it’s a fast knit but in others really slow. The pattern knits up nice and quickly but it’s sock weight yarn so you get a lot of rows to an inch. Thing is I’m not bothered if it takes a while to knit up. Sometimes I knit because I need or want an item, other times it’s because the act of knitting is more important and the item is a bonus at the end. In this case, I’m enjoying the knit and the stole/shawl will be a wonderful bonus when I’m eventually done.
If you’re interested in the pattern you can find it on Ravelry as a free download although unfortunately the pattern is only in German. I talk about trying to figure it out in this vlog and this one. Oh and if you do watch the vlogs, the yarn decided it didn’t approve of the pattern in the end and was frogged. It’s still sitting on the shelf waiting for the right pattern.
