Spring has Finally Sprung
Yay spring is finally here after what feels like the longest, coldest, dampest most miserable winter of my entire life. Honestly, I swear I wasn’t warm between November and yesterday, not that deep down warmness at any rate. Spring might be late this year but now it’s here it’s arrived with vengeance, the trees and plants are bursting with buds, the birds are singing as if practising for a gala performance and the streets are full of people in t-shirts and shorts!
As I cycled into town for a meeting yesterday on the way the people I passed all had cardigans or light coats, and there was a feeling that surely this beautiful warm morning will turn to rain, or fog, or a hurricane soon, so best to be prepared. By the time I was heading home, all such worries had dissipated and it was all shorts, flip-flops and not a coat or cardigan in sight. For my own part, I bought sunscreen and new sunglasses in town and decided to take the ‘scenic’ route home on my bike (after getting sunscreen not only all over my face and arms but my top and new glasses as well).
Obviously, I’d taken my knitting with me, the second of the ‘Long long Witchy Socks’ and managed a little bit of the gusset before the meeting started. Once home I set up my laptop outside in the courtyard and started my usual routine of alternating between editing and knitting. Salem the cat decided to join me and insisted on photobombing everytime I tried to take a photo of the socks in progress.
I’m back outside again today, suitably lathered in sunscreen and wearing my big ‘wizards’ hat (that always makes me want to make up songs about wizards staffs having a knob on the end) to not only shade my eyes but prevent a sunshine headache. I don’t know how long this glorious weather will last but after the last few months, it’s a very welcome change. It’s amazing how much a little bit of sunshine can raise your spirits.
